Portraiture

Application
Portraiture is capturing an image of someone. Mostly the portraits dont show what they are actually like. But some photographers wait for the right moment where the person stops posing and shows there true self. For example Robert Capa was allowed to take make a portrait of Picasso. Picasso done alot of poses but when he realised Robert Capa would not take a picture of him posing his face dropped and that was when Robert Capa took the picture.

Context
You see portraits around peoples houses, art museums and shops.

Technique
Some people do poses and others do nothing some dont even smile. Some people show their true selves and others make themselves look like there high up and important. for example the french king had his portrait of him on top of a horse to make him look bigger than he actually is. Cindy Sherman made her pictures look like they were done in the 1950s.

  1. Good Connor, Can you include some illustrations in this post? you need to mention the impact that Arbus and Clare images have on our perception of the portrait? i.e Away from the person who is in the picture and into the hands of the Photographer.
